Melissa Gilbert (* 8. Mai 1964 in Los Angeles) ist eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin. Bekannt wurde sie durch ihre Rolle in der Serie Unsere kleine Farm, in der sie die Rolle von Laura Ingalls spielte.

Bemerkenswert ist, dass Melissa Gilbert die drei bekanntesten historischen Mädchengestalten des 19. bzw. 20. Jahrhunderts filmisch darstellte – Helen Keller, Anne Frank und Laura Ingalls (Laura Ingalls Wilder), wobei die beiden ersten historisch korrekt dargestellt werden, Laura Ingalls in oben erwähnter Serie hingegen in fiktive Zusammenhänge gestellt wird.

Gilbert besitzt einen Stern auf dem so genannten Walk of Fame und teilt sich dort den Jugendrekord mit Sängerin Britney Spears. Außerdem hat sie zweimal – 1983 und 1984 – den Young Artist Award als „Beste junge Darstellerin in einer Fernsehserie“ gewonnen.

Für einen Werbespot stand sie erstmals mit drei Jahren vor der Kamera.

Auch Gilberts Stiefgeschwister sind als Schauspieler tätig: Ihr jüngerer Bruder Jonathan ist ebenfalls in Unsere kleine Farm als Willie Oleson zu sehen, ihre Schwester Sara ist vor allem durch ihre Rolle als Darlene in der Comedy-Fernsehserie Roseanne bekannt.

Sie ist seit dem 1. Januar 1995 mit dem Schauspieler Bruce Boxleitner verheiratet.

Lange bevor Tom Cruise erste Erfolge feierte und berühmt wurde, waren Melissa und Tom ein Paar.

Melissa hat 2 Söhne, einen aus früherer Ehe (Dakota, geb. 1. Mai 1989) und einen aus ihrer aktuellen Ehe (Michael Garret, geb. 6. Oktober 1995).
