Meredith Monroe

Meredith ist ein Einzelkind, die es nur knapp verpasst hat, ein Neujahrskind zu sein: sie wurde am 30. Dezember 1977 in der texanischen Stadt Houston geboren, aufgewachsen ist sie jedoch in Hinsdale, Illinois.

Ihre Eltern ließen sich schon früh scheiden, als Meredith gerade zwei war. Ihre Jugendjahre verbrachte sie mit ihrer Mutter Judith in Hinsdale. Damit hat sie eine Eigenschaft mit den meisten anderen "Dawson's Creek" Darstellern gemein, sie stammt aus einer Kleinstadt. Hinsdale hat gerade einmal 17.000 Einwohner und liegt in der Nähe von Chicago. Die Sommer hat sie regelmäßig mit ihrem Vater verbracht und pendelte dann zwischen Texas und Florida, da ihr Vater aufgrund seines Berufes sehr häufig umziehen musste.

Nachdem sie in Hinsdale die Highschool absolviert hatte, zog es sie jedoch nach New York, um dort eine Modelkarriere zu beginnen. Ihre TV-Karriere begann mit Werbespots, zum Beispiel 1995 in einer Werbung für Loréal Haarprodukte und 1997 in einer für Mentos. Sie hat seitdem in über 30 Werbespots mitgewirkt. Sicherlich keine sehr aufregenden TV-Jobs, aber wie sie selbst sagte, ist sie da eben hereingerutscht: "Ich fing mit dem modeln an und bekam dann einige Vorsprechen für Werbungen und schließlich für TV-Shows. Ich hab das ursprünglich niemals verfolgt, aber als ich einmal mit der Werbung angefangen hatte, konnte ich eine gewisse Klasse erlangen und das führte zu mehr Vorsprechen und zu mehr Jobs."

Ihre erste Rolle hatte sie als Trudy Kockenlocker in dem Film "Norville and Trudy" (1997). Es folgte eine Gastrolle in "Dangerous Minds" (1997), die sie dazu bewog, von New York nach Los Angeles zu ziehen. Eine gute Entscheidung, denn sie bekam danach verschiedene Gastrollen in diversen TV-Serien. Darunter als Rachel in "Sunset Beach"(1998 ), als Claire Mosley in "The Magnificent Seven" (1998 ) und in "Players" (1998 ).

Merediths Durchbruch kam aber erst mit der Rolle der Andie McPhee in "Dawson's Creek". Eine nicht ganz leicht zu besetzende Rolle, wie Serienmacher Kevin Williamson meint: "Wir hatten es echt schwer eine passende Besetzung für Andie zu finden, aber wir fanden ein tolles Mädchen - Meredith." Diese Rolle brachte für Meredith wieder einen Umzug nach Wilmington mit sich und ließ ihre Popularität sprunghaft ansteigen.

Ihr Part in "Dawson's Creek" ist sicherlich einer der anspruchsvollsten, sie weiß aber mit ihrer Darstellung der teilweise hysterischen, ausgeflippten und danach wieder sanftmütigen Andie durchaus zu überzeugen und die psychischen Probleme ihres Charakters realistisch herüberzubringen. Aber ist Meredith im wirklichen Leben auch so aufgedreht? "Ich liebe es, den Part der Andie zu spielen. Sie ist eindrucksvoll. Es war nicht so schwer, sich in sie hineinzuversetzen. Am Anfang war sie beinahe zu 100% wie ich und als die Rolle sich weiterentwickelte und sich entfaltete, da wurde es sehr aufregend und eine großartige Herausforderung für mich. Ich habe einfach nur versucht, wahrheitsgemäß mit ihren Gefühlen und den Schwierigkeiten mit ihrem Leben, bezogen auf Schule und Familie, umzugehen."

Meredith war danach in einer Reihe von Filmen zu sehen, so in der CBS Filmreihe "Beyond the Prairie" (2000, 2002). Weitere Projekte waren die Filme "New Best Friend" (2002), "Minority Report" (2002) oder "Manhood" (2003).

Nach ihrem Ausstieg aus "Dawson's Creek" im Jahr 2000 spielte Meredith aber nicht nur in Filmen, sondern auch in diversen Serien mit: So hatte sie in "Die himmlische Joan" (2004), "CSI: Miami" (2004) oder "Criminal Minds" (2005-2006) Gastauftritte.

Seit 1999 ist Meredith mit dem New Yorker Steve Kavovit verheiratet. Die beiden hatten sich durch einen gemeinsamen Freund in New York getroffen.
