Keira Christina Knightley (* 26. März 1985 in Teddington, London) ist eine britische Schauspielerin.


Biografie

Knightleys Vater ist der Schauspieler Will Knightley, ihre Mutter die Schriftstellerin und Bühnenautorin Sharman Macdonald. Sie hat einen Bruder, Caleb, der 1979 geboren wurde.

1992 verbrachte sie ihre Sommerferien als Balletttänzerin auf der Bühne. Die erste Nebenrolle erhielt sie 1993 in der Fernsehserie A Royal Celebration und in dem Drama Eine unerhörte Affäre 1994. Keira Knightley legte schon früh den Grundstein für ihre Schauspielkarriere. Bereits mit sechs Jahren wollte sie einen eigenen Agenten haben – eine Idee, die sie sich von ihren Eltern abgeschaut hatte. Ihre Eltern waren weniger begeistert von den Ambitionen ihrer Tochter, ließen sie aber schließlich in den Sommerferien Filme drehen.

Das deutsche Fernsehpublikum bekam sie erstmals 1998 in der Rosamunde-Pilcher-Verfilmung Heimkehr zu sehen. Ein Jahr später hatte sie einen kleinen Auftritt als Doppelgängerin von Natalie Portman in Star Wars: Episode I – Die dunkle Bedrohung. 2001 war sie im Thriller The Hole zu sehen. Der Durchbruch gelang Keira Knightley mit dem britischen Überraschungserfolg Kick it like Beckham (2002).

Im Piraten-Blockbuster Fluch der Karibik (2003) verführte sie als Gouverneurstochter Elizabeth Swann erst Orlando Bloom und in Pirates of the Caribbean – Fluch der Karibik 2 (2006) auch Johnny Depp. Im dritten Teil Pirates of the Caribbean – Am Ende der Welt (2007) übernahm sie erneut diese Rolle. Ende 2003 war Knightley in Tatsächlich … Liebe mit Hugh Grant als Braut von Chiwetel Ejiofor zu sehen. 2004 war sie in King Arthur die Lady Guinevere.

Mit Stolz und Vorurteil (2005) trat Knightley in einem weiteren Kostümfilm auf. In der Verfilmung des Romans von Jane Austen spielte sie die Elizabeth Bennet, die sich gegen ihren Verehrer Mr. Darcy sträubt. 2007 war sie in Joe Wrights Drama Abbitte nach dem gleichnamigen Roman von Ian McEwan zu sehen.

Keira Knightley wirbt seit 2007 für das Parfum Coco Mademoiselle der Firma Chanel. In einem 45-sekündigen Werbespot mimt sie die junge Coco Chanel, die sich in ihrer Wohnung auf ein Rendezvous in Paris vorbereitet. Der Spot wird durch Musik von Joss Stone („Love“) untermalt. Des Weiteren gibt es eine Poster-Kampagne, die in Zeitschriften erscheint.


Auszeichnungen

Für ihre Leistung in Stolz und Vorurteil wurde sie 2006 für den Golden Globe und den Oscar als beste Hauptdarstellerin nominiert. Für ihre Rolle als junge Fußballspielerin in der Frauenfußball-Komödie Kick it like Beckham wurde sie als beste Schauspielerin 2002 mit der „Golden Wave“ und als britische Newcomerin des Jahres 2003 ausgezeichnet.

Weiterhin wurde sie im Jahr 2007 für den Golden Globe für ihre Verkörperung der Cecilia Tallis in dem Film Abbitte als beste Hauptdarstellerin nominiert.
