Alicia Amanda Vikander (born 3 October 1988 ) is a Swedish actress and dancer. Vikander began her career in the theatre and by appearing in Swedish short films and television series, most notably in the popular TV drama Andra Avenyn (2008–10). She made her feature film debut in the film Pure (2010), for which she won the Guldbagge Award for Best Actress. Vikander gained international attention when she appeared in the 2012 adaptation of Anna Karenina, co-starred in the Academy Award-nominated Danish film A Royal Affair (2012) and in the Julian Assange biopic The Fifth Estate (2013).
In 2015, she gained public recognition for portraying Vera Brittain in Testament of Youth and an AI named Ava in Ex Machina, for which she received Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations. For her performance as artist Gerda Wegener in The Danish Girl, she received nominations for an Academy Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG and won the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress.
