Janet Ruth Montgomerys Karriere begann im zarten Alter von zwölf Jahren, als sie mit ihrem Bruder Jason in der britischen Show „Short Change“ auftrat. 2006 absolvierte sie das Stella Mann College mit Schwerpunkt Schauspiel und Musical. Nebenbei unterrichtete Janet Tanz und Schauspiel für Kinder und arbeitete als Nanny. Sie ist musikalisch begabt und spielt Violine.

Erst 2008 tauchte Montgomery wieder als Nicholas Hoults Freundin Beth in der Teenie-Serie „Skins“ im Blickpunkt der Öffentlichkeit auf: In der Episodeentblößte sie ihre Brüste. Weitere kleinere Auftritte wie in dem Drama „Dis/ Connected“ oder im Kurzfilm „Flushed“ folgten. Nach wenigen Jahren in London, erfüllte sie schließlich sich einen Kindheitstraum und zog nach Los Angeles.

Im Jahr 2009 hat Janet Montgomery vier Horrorfilme gedreht: „In The Hills Run Red“ spielte sie Serina an der Seite von Tad Hilgenbrink alias Matt Stifler bekannt aus „American Pie: Die nächste Generation“. Danach folgte der Kannibalen-Horror „Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead“, in dem Montgomery die weibliche Hauptrolle spielte. Im Film „Accused at 17“ wird Janets Leistung als Fally Werner von Film-Kritikern gelobt. Im November 2009 kehrt sie zurück nach England, um die Rolle der Giselle in dem Independent-Horror „Dead Cert“ zu mimen.

2010 spielt sie eine Nebenrolle im Psychothriller „Black Swan“ an der Seite von Natalie Portman, Winona Ryder und Mila Kunis. Montgomery spielt Madeleine, eine Tänzerin, die eifersüchtig auf ihre Kollegin Nina (Natalie Portman) ist.

Obwohl es so scheint, dass sich Janet Montgomery auf Thriller spezialisiert hat, beweist sie in der Comedyserie „Entourage“ ihre humorvolle Seite. Sie spielt dort im Jahr 2010 die Assistentin Jennie von Eric Murphy.

Mit einer wiederkehrenden Rolle ist Montgomery 2010 als Meisterdiebin in der US-Serie „Human Target“ zu sehen.
