Ihre Laufbahn als Meteorologin begann im Oktober 1996 mit einem Sektfrühstück. Das ist das Begrüßungsritual für die Meteorologiestudenten in Hamburg. Doch streng genommen ist die gebürtige Rostockerin keine Meteorologin, sondern Diplom-Ozeanographin.



Juliane PestelAußerdem Forschungstaucherin. Während zahlreicher Expeditionen, unter anderem zum Golfstrom, wuchs jedoch das Interesse am Wetter. Und so wechselte sie das Fach. Es folgten drei Jahre Arbeit in einem meteorologischen Forschungsinstitut, wo sie an einem Hochwasservorhersage-System für die Oder arbeitete. Außerdem nahm sie an Messungen teil, die - passend zur Meteorologie - in der Luft per Hubschrauber durchgeführt wurden. Zum Team von Jörg Kachelmann kam sie, nachdem sie aus reiner Neugier eine Bewerbung an die Tagesschau geschickt hatte. Sie erstellte dann einige Monate lang immer wieder eigene Vorhersagen und überzeugte.

Ich mag am liebsten warmen Sommerregen.

Ich werde natürlich gefragt: "Wie wird das Wetter?", oft auch von Menschen, die direkt neben mir standen, während ich kurz zuvor moderierte ...


Welche Gegend im MDR-Land finden Sie aus meteorologischer Sicht am spannendsten?
Am spannendsten in Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt und Thüringen ist das Wetter in den Bergen. Dort gibt es häufig Sturm und auch dann Schnee, wenn's im Flachland schon taut. Außerdem scheint dort oft die Sonne, wenn unten dicke Wolken sind.


Was war Ihr bisher aufregendstes Wettererlebnis?
Das Orkantief "Kyrill" war heftig. Ich stand bei einer Windstärke von über 150 Stundenkilometern vor der Kamera und meine Wangen flatterten und man kann nichts dagegen tun, dass einem das Wasser aus dem Mund fliegt ...
