Maggie Ruth Gyllenhaal ['dʒɪlənhɑl] (* 16. November 1977 in New York City) ist eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin.

Sie ist die Tochter des Regisseurs Stephen Gyllenhaal sowie der Produzentin und Autorin Naomi Foner. Ihr Bruder ist der Schauspieler Jake Gyllenhaal. Die Familie Gyllenhaal stammt ursprünglich aus Schweden.

Waterland war 1992 Gyllenhaals Debüt-Film. Erste Beachtung fand die Schauspielerin 2001 mit ihren Rollen in Richard Kellys Donnie Darko und Unterwegs mit Jungs.

Gyllenhaals Rolle als masochistische Sekretärin im Jahr 2002 in Steven Shainbergs Secretary trug ihr eine Golden-Globe-Nominierung ein. Ebenfalls 2002 spielte Gyllenhaal Nebenrollen in Adaption. von Spike Jonze mit Nicolas Cage und Geständnisse – Confessions of a Dangerous Mind unter der Regie von George Clooney. Weiterhin stand sie in 40 Tage und 40 Nächte an der Seite von Josh Hartnett und Shannyn Sossamon vor der Kamera.

2003 folgte ihre Rolle als Giselle Levyin in Mike Newells Mona Lisas Lächeln sowie 2004 als Valerie in Criminal.

Gyllenhaal ist mit dem Schauspieler Peter Sarsgaard verlobt, den sie 2003 bei den Dreharbeiten zum bisher unveröffentlichen Low-Budget-Film In God’s Hands kennenlernte und der auch ein Freund ihres Bruders ist. Am 3. Oktober 2006 kam die gemeinsame Tochter Ramona zur Welt.

2007 war sie für ihre Rolle im Film SherryBaby erneut für einen Golden Globe nominiert.
