Tyra Banks
 

Tyra Lynne Banks (* 4. Dezember 1973 in Los Angeles, Kalifornien) ist US-amerikanisches Fotomodell und Schauspielerin.

Als Kind besuchte sie die Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles, Kalifornien. 1991 wurde sie mit siebzehn Jahren von der Modelagentur Elite entdeckt. Sie brach die Schule ab und flog nach Paris.

Tyra Banks gehört zu den prominentesten Models der USA. Das People Magazine wählte sie 1994 und 1996 unter die „50 schönsten Menschen der Welt“.

Banks besitzt eine eigene Firma: TYInc. Sie war die erste Afro-Amerikanerin, die auf den Titelseiten der Männermagazine Gentlemen’s Quarterly, Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue und des Victoria’s-Secret-Katalogs abgebildet wurde.

1997 gewann sie den Michael Award als bestes Supermodel des Jahres (Supermodel of the Year).

2000 wählte sie das Black Men Magazine auf den zweiten Rang der „10 schönsten Frauen des Jahres“.

Neben ihrer Model-Karriere spielte sie in einigen Filmen und Videos mit. 2003 kreierte sie die Serie America’s Next Top Model, welche sie auch produzierte und moderierte.

2004 erschien ihr erstes und einziges Album. Ihre Single „Shake Ya Body“ war ein Flop.
