Danica Patrick
 

Danica Sue Patrick (* 25. März 1982 in Beloit, Wisconsin, USA) ist eine Rennfahrerin in der Indy Racing League.

Patrick ist erst die vierte Frau, die sich für die legendären Indianapolis 500 überhaupt qualifizieren konnte. Beim 89. Rennen, am 29. Mai 2005 in Indianapolis, führte sie bis wenige Runden vor Schluss, musste dann jedoch zum Spritsparen ihr Tempo drosseln und landete schließlich auf dem vierten Platz. Und das, obwohl sie bei einem Boxenstopp den Motor ihres Boliden abgewürgt hatte und sich während des Rennens sogar einmal drehte, was einen zusätzlichen Boxenstopp für die Reparatur der lädierten Frontpartie erforderlich machte. Danica brachte übrigens einen nicht zu unterschätzenden Gewichtsvorteil ins Spiel: Mit nur 46 kg wog die damals 23-Jährige rund 15 kg weniger als ihr leichtester männlicher Konkurrent, Hélio Castroneves. Das soll pro Indy-Runde laut Aussage von Fachleuten mehr als eine halbe Sekunde an Zeitersparnis wert sein.
