Tomb Raider
 

Tomb Raider [ˈtuːmˌɹeɪdə] (dt.: Grabräuber) ist eine Reihe von Computerspielen, welche 1996 vom Entwickler Toby Gard bei Core Design erfunden wurde. Die Protagonistin dieser beliebten und populären Action-Adventure-Reihe ist Lara Croft, eine Art weiblicher Indiana Jones. Die besonders gelungene Mischung aus Action und Adventure (Geschick, Kämpfen, Waffen und Rätsel lösen) ist einer der Faktoren, welche diese Spieleserie so beliebt macht. So wurden laut Angaben des Entwicklers rund 7 Millionen Exemplare des ersten Spieles der Reihe abgesetzt, insgesamt verkauften sich die Titel der Spielereihe 32 Millionen mal.(Stand 2007).

Die Tomb-Raider-Serie ist eine der meistverkauften Spieleserien der Welt, und zu keinem anderen Videospiel sind mehr Merchandise-Artikel erhältlich. Auffällig ist die überdurchschnittlich hohe Quote an weiblichen Spielern.

In jüngster Zeit wurde Tomb Raider über die Idee eines reinen Videospiels hinausgetragen. Darunter fallen die Kinofilme Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) und die Fortsetzung Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – Die Wiege des Lebens (2003), in denen Schauspielerin Angelina Jolie die Rolle der Lara Croft verkörpert. Ein dritter Film ist in Planung. Ebenfalls existieren Lara-Croft-Comics, die 14-tägig auch in Deutschland erscheinen. Durch die Veröffentlichung des Leveleditors gibt es eine große Community levelbauender Tomb-Raider-Fans.

Zudem gibt es eine Erotik-Film-Parodie im Softcore-Bereich welche sich das Thema Tomb Raider zu Herzen nimmt: „Cara Loft – Womb Raider“, „Tomb Raper“ und den Comic „Nude Raider“.
