Lucy Lawless (* 29. März 1968 in Mount Albert, Auckland, Neuseeland als Lucille Frances Ryan) ist eine neuseeländische Schauspielerin.

Bevor Lawless zur Schauspielerei kam, wollte sie eigentlich Opernsängerin werden. In Deutschland wurde sie vor allem durch die Rolle der Xena – erst in der Fernsehserie Hercules, dann in dem Spin-Off Xena – bekannt. Weiterhin übernahm sie die Moderation einer Serie über echte "Kriegerinnen" der Geschichte, welche in Deutschland nur auf dem Discovery Channel von Premiere zu sehen war.

Darüber hinaus war sie in Gastrollen in dem 2002 erschienen Kinofilm Spider-Man und in den TV-Serien Tarzan sowie als Zylonen-Baureihe "Nummer Drei" / D'anna Biers in Battlestar Galactica, wo sie in der dritten Staffel zum festem Bestandteil der Crew wurde, zu sehen. Außerdem übernahm sie Sprechrollen etwa bei The Simpsons, in der sie ihrem eigenen Charakter ihre Stimme lieh.

Ein Angebot des Regisseurs Peter Jackson für die Rolle der Galadriel in Der Herr der Ringe: Die Gefährten lehnte sie wegen ihrer Schwangerschaft ab, da man sonst die Produktion hätte verschieben müssen.

Lawless hat zusammen mit Ex-Ehemann Garth eine Tochter Daisy (1989). Seit dem 28. März 1998 ist sie mit Robert G. Tapert, dem Produzenten der Xena und Hercules-Serien verheiratet und hat mit ihm die zwei Söhne Julius Robert Bay (* 16. Oktober 1999) und Judah Miro Tapert (* 7. Mai 2002).

Interessantes
Der Zwergplanet 2003 UB313 erhielt von seinem Entdecker Michael E. Brown die Arbeitsbezeichnung Xena nach dem von Lucy Lawless verkörperten Charakter. Als schließlich endgültige Namen vergeben wurde der Zwergplanet Eris genannt. Dessen Mond erhielt den Namen Dysnomia, der griechischen Göttin der Gesetzlosigkeit (engl. Lawlessness), was laut Brown eine direkte Hommage an Lucy Lawless ist.
