Gugu Mbatha-Raw
 

Gugu Mbatha-Raw (born Gugulethu Mbatha-Raw; 1983) is an English actress, best known for her semi-regular role as Jenny in the fifth series of Spooks and series 3 of the critically acclaimed sci-fi series Doctor Who in which she portrayed the role of Tish Jones. She more recently won the lead female role in Lost creator J. J. Abrams's new spy drama, Undercovers.

Gugu - short for Gugulethu, the Zulu for Our Pride, was born in the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, in 1983 to South African doctor Patrick Mbatha and his wife, nurse Anne Raw. Her parents separated when she was only a year old, though she is still close to her father and was brought up by her mother in the town of Witney, Oxfordshire. There she joined the local acting society, Dramascope, and from the age of eleven appeared in a pantomime at the Oxford Playhouse every year. A talented singer, dancer and saxophonist, she joined the Oxford Youth Music Theatre in her teens. In 2001 she won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. Since graduation in 2004, she has appeared in all media, including as an acclaimed Juliet in Romeo and Juliet at Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre and on television in such varied series as Bad Girls, Doctor Who and Marple. Gugu is 5' 4" tall and was frequently mistaken for both Angela Griffin and Sophie Okonedo early on in her career.
