Mira Sorvino
 

Mira Katherine Sorvino(* 28. September 1967 in Tenafly, New Jersey, USA) ist eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin. Ihr Vater ist der Schauspieler Paul Sorvino.

An der US-amerikanischen Harvard University hat Mira Sorvino im Hauptfach Sinologie (fernöstliche Sprache und Literatur) studiert und schloss mit einer Abschlussarbeit über Rassenkonflikte in China 1989 mit „magna cum laude“ ab. Sie spricht Chinesisch und Französisch.

Nach dem Collegeabschluß lebte sie drei Jahre in New York. Wie viele andere junge Schauspieler arbeitete sie in diversen Kleinjobs, während sie auf die Gelegenheit für den Einstieg ins Showgeschäft wartete.

Als der Film Amongst Friends' (1993) vorbereitet wurde, wurde sie als Dritte Regieassistentin angeheuert. Schon bald wurde sie zur Besetzungschefin und Produktionsassistentin befördert. Schließlich wurde ihr sogar die Hauptrolle angeboten. Die Kritiker bewerteten diesen ersten Filmauftritt positiv.

Der Durchbruch gelang ihr 1995 mit der Darstellung der ordinären Prostituierten Linda Ash in dem Woody-Allen-Streifen Geliebte Aphrodite, für die sie einen Oscar gewann.

Sorvino ist seit 11. Juni 2004 mit dem 14 Jahre jüngeren Schauspieler Christopher Backus verheiratet. Sie hat eine Tochter, Mattea Angel (* 3. November 2004) und einen Sohn, Johnny Christopher (* 29. Mai 2006).

Auszeichnungen:

Im Jahr 1996 wurde sie vom US-Magazin People zu einem der 50 schönsten Menschen der Welt gewählt.

Für ihre Darstellung der Linda in dem Film Geliebte Aphrodite (Regie: Woody Allen, 1995) erhielt sie 1996 den Oscar für die beste weibliche Nebenrolle.
