Romola Sadie Garai (* 1. Juli 1982 in Southwark, England) ist eine britische Schauspielerin.

Leben und Leistungen

Romola Garai die jüdische und ungarische Vorfahren hat, wuchs unter anderem in Singapur und Hong Kong auf. Ursprünglich als Sängerin und Musikerin entdeckt startete sie ihre Spielfilmkarriere im Jahr 2000 mit dem Fernsehfilm The Last of the Blonde Bombshells. In dem preisgekrönten Drama agierte sie neben so bekannten Aktricen wie Judi Dench, Leslie Caron oder Olympia Dukakis. Schnell folgten weitere Rollenangebote in Kinoproduktionen auf beiden Seiten des Atlantiks, darunter Historienfilme wie Nicholas Nickleby (2002) aber auch zeitgenössischen Dramen wie Inside I'm Dancing (2004) in dem sie das Objekt der Begierde eines spastisch gelähmten Jugendlichen (gespielt von James McAvoy) mimt. Der Part der Siobhan brachte ihr 2005 den Preis der Londoner Filmkritiker als beste Nebendarstellerin des Jahres ein. Einem großen US-amerikanischen Publikum wurde sie 2004 durch die weibliche Hauptrolle neben Diego Luna in dem Tanzfilm Dirty Dancing 2 bekannt, der sich lose an die Handlung des Welterfolgs Dirty Dancing (1987) anlehnt.
