Maria Jurjewna Scharapowa (russisch Мария Юрьевна Шарапова, wiss. Transliteration Marija Jur'evna Šarapova; * 19. April 1987 in Njagan) ist eine russische Tennisspielerin, sowie ein Fotomodell und Mannequin.

Scharapowas Eltern stammen ursprünglich aus Gomel im heutigen Weißrussland. In Folge der Reaktorkatastrophe von Tschernobyl siedelte die Familie aber nach Njagan in Westsibirien um. Nach den ersten Lebensjahren in Sibirien zog die Familie nach Sotschi. Mit vier Jahren begann Scharapowa Tennis zu spielen. Martina Navratilova entdeckte sie bei einem Sichtungsturnier im Alter von sechs Jahren in Moskau, wo die Familie mittlerweile wohnte. Sie riet dem Vater Yuri, die Tochter im Tenniscamp von Nick Bollettieri in Florida ausbilden zu lassen.
