Jewel Staite
Jewel Staite (* 2. Juni 1982 in White Rock, Britisch-Kolumbien, Kanada) ist eine kanadische Schauspielerin. Weltweite Bekanntheit erlangte sie vor allem durch ihre Rolle als Kaylee Frye in der Fernsehserie Firefly (2002) und dem darauf basierenden Film Serenity (2005).
Biografie Bis zum vierten Lebensjahr lebte Jewel Staite auf Maui, wo sie bereits mit zwei Jahren ihre ersten Bühnenauftritte hatte. Nach dem Umzug nach Vancouver bekam sie das Angebot, sich für die Kindermode von Sears fotografieren und filmen zu lassen. Sie willigte nach anfänglicher Ablehnung schließlich ein, da sie unbedingt die Kleider haben wollte. Jahrelang war sie im Vancouver Youth Theatre aktiv und übte dort mehrere Tage die Woche, was ihr schließlich diverse Modelaufträge verschaffte und zu ihren ersten Auftritten in Werbespots und schließlich auch zu größeren TV-Rollen führte. Staite unterstützt aktiv diverse AIDS-Hilfsorganisationen. Am 25. April 2003 heiratete sie ihren Freund Mat Anderson unter Beisein ihrer Firefly-Kollegen Morena Baccarin und Nathan Fillion auf Maui. Im Juni 2009 wird sie in der Hauptrolle Liz in The Tribe zu sehen sein.
