Alba wurde im Jahr 2000 durch die Rolle der Max Guevera in der Science-Fiction Fernsehserie Dark Angel bekannt.

Leben
Jessica Alba wurde in Pomona geboren, Ihre Eltern waren Marc Alba, ein Amerikaner mexikanischer Abstammung, und Catherine Jensen, die dänische und französische Vorfahren hatte. Die beiden heirateten in Jessicas Jugend. Ihr Großvater mütterlicherseits war dreißig Jahre Marineunteroffizier, der während des zweiten Weltkriegs im Pazifik gedient hatte. Jessica Alba hat einen jüngeren Bruder namens Joshua, der neben ihr bei der Serie Dark Angel vor der Kamera gestanden ist. Durch die Karriere ihres Vaters bei der Air Force ist sie in ihrer Jugend mehrmals umgezogen, unter anderem hat sie in Biloxi, Mississippi und Del Rio, Texas gelebt.

Sie gelangte als Zwölfjährige zu ihrem ersten Agenten. Sie besitzt die US-amerikanische, mexikanische und kanadische Staatsangehörigkeit.

Ihren Durchbruch schaffte Alba mit der von James Cameron produzierten Serie Dark Angel in der Rolle der Max Guevera, die als genetisch veränderte Soldatin in einem postapokalyptischen Amerika für das Gute kämpft. Vor Beginn der Dreharbeiten trainierte Jessica Alba ein Jahr für ihre Rolle und lernte unter anderem das Motorradfahren. Da es zum Zeitpunkt des Dark-Angel-Castings lediglich eine Seite Script zu Max’ Charakter gab, wurde Jessica Alba die Rolle buchstäblich auf den Leib geschrieben. Jessica Alba gewann unter anderem mit der Serie den People’s Choice Award (2001), den TV Guide Award (2001) sowie den Teen Choice Award (2001).

Alba landete ihren ersten Kinoerfolg mit Honey. Weitere Kinofilme folgten, so Fantastic Four, eine Adaption der Marvel Comics von Stan Lee. Für ihre Darstellung wurde sie allerdings für die Goldene Himbeere nominiert. Sin City, eine weitere Comicverfilmung. Des Weiteren war sie gemeinsam mit Paul Walker in Into the Blue auf der Leinwand zu sehen.
