Vanessa Lynn Williams
 

Vanessa Lynn Williams (* 18. März 1963 in New York City) ist eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin und Sängerin.

Die Eltern von Williams waren Musiklehrer. Sie studierte Klavierspiel an der Syracuse University. Im Jahr 1983 wurde sie Miss New York, am 17. September 1983 wurde sie zur ersten Miss America mit afroamerikanischen Wurzeln gewählt. Im Jahr 1984 erschienen in der Zeitschrift Penthouse Nacktfotos von Williams, die sie in den Posen der lesbischen Liebe mit einer anderen Frau zeigten. Williams wurde gezwungen, am 23. Juli 1984 ihre Krone der Miss America zurückzugeben.

Ihr Debütalbum The Right Stuff (1988) wurde mit der Goldenen Schallplatte ausgezeichnet und für drei Grammy Awards nominiert. Ihre Single Save the Best For Last (1992) erreichte für fünf Wochen die erste Position der Chart-Liste Billboard Hot 100 und wurde für den Grammy Award nominiert. Sie sang auch den preisgekrönten Song Colors of the Wind, der im Film Pocahontas (1995) verwendet wurde.

Als Schauspielerin debütierte Williams in der Mitte der 1980er Jahre; besonders bekannt wurde ihre Rolle im Film Eraser (1996), in dem sie neben Arnold Schwarzenegger spielte. Für ihre Hauptrolle im Film Soul Food (1997) gewann sie den Image Award und wurde für den Black Film Award des Acapulco Black Film Festivals nominiert. Für ihre Rolle im Actionfilm Shaft – Noch Fragen? (2000), in dem sie neben Samuel L. Jackson spielte, wurde sie für den Blockbuster Entertainment Award und den Image Award nominiert. Für ihre Hauptrolle in der Komödie Familie Johnson geht auf Reisen (2004) wurde sie für den BET Comedy Award nominiert.

Seit 2006 spielt Sie die Wilhelmina Slate In der ABC Produktion Alles Betty!.
