Amy Winehouse
 

Amy Winehouse wuchs als Tochter eines Taxifahrers und einer Apothekerin in Southgate, einem Stadtteil von London, auf. Ihre Eltern trennten sich, als sie 9 Jahre alt war.[1] Mit 12 Jahren besuchte sie die Sylvia Young's Stage School, einer Schule für britische Nachwuchskünstler, die sie allerdings nur ein Jahr später verließ, um im Alter von nur 16 Jahren Geschichte zu studieren.[2] [3] Später besuchte sie die BRIT School for the Performing Arts in Selhurst.

Mit 18 unterschrieb Winehouse ihren ersten Vertrag bei Island Records. Für ihr 2003 erschienenes Debütalbum Frank erhielt sie jeweils eine Nominierung für die Brit Awards und den Mercury Music Prize. 2006 veröffentlichte sie ihr zweites Album, Back to Black.

Seit dem 18. Mai 2007 ist Amy Winehouse mit Blake Fielder-Civil verheiratet.

Wiederholt negativ in die Schlagzeilen gerät Amy Winehouse im Zusammenhang mit Drogen und Alkohol, was regelmäßig zu Konzertabsagen führte. So musste sie beispielsweise im Juli 2007 auf ärztlichen Rat wegen eines „völligen Erschöpfungszustandes“ kurzfristig mehrere Festival-Termine, wie das jazzopen in Stuttgart, das Nuke in St. Pölten oder das T in the Park in Balado (Schottland), absagen. Am 9. August erlitt Winehouse einen Zusammenbruch und musste ambulant behandelt werden. Das Management spricht erneut von „schwerer Erschöpfung“ als Ursache.[4] Die britische Boulevardzeitung The Sun hingegen nennt konkret eine Überdosis Drogen als Ursache für die erneute Auszeit.[5] Winehouse gab bereits einmal zu, Marihuana und Kokain zu konsumieren. Bekannt sind auch wiederholt alkoholisierte Bühnenauftritte, die ihr von Boulevardblättern bereits den Ruf „weiblicher Pete Doherty“ einbrachten. Darüber hinaus kämpfte sie mit Magersucht und Bulimie.[4]


Musikstil [Bearbeiten]Winehouse selbst ordnet sich unter Berufung auf TLC und Salt'N'Pepa im Soul-Genre ein.[6] Dagegen sehen die meisten ihrer Kritiker sie im Pop- und Contemporary Jazz. Auf ihrem zweiten Album Back to Black überwiegen Soul-Elemente mit deutlichen Anleihen an Motown und die amerikanische Musik der sechziger Jahre.
