Matador Magazin
 

Matador ist ein deutsches Männer- und Lifestylemagazin, das seit 2004 monatlich bei der Bauer Verlagsgruppe erschien. Eingestellt wurde das Magazin mit Heft 6/2008.

Am 11. März 2004 erschien erstmalig das Männer- und Lifestylemagazin Matador unter dem Schlagwort „Männer wollens wissen“. Herausgeber ist die Bauer Verlagsgruppe, ehemals Verleger des Magazins Playboy, die damit erstmalig einen Titel für dieses Marktsegment in Deutschland entwickelten. Das Format wurde entwickelt nachdem der Verlag nicht mehr über eine Lizenz zum Vertrieb der deutschen Playboyausgabe verfügte.

Der Verlag beschreibt das Magazin als Heft-in-Heft-Konzept, das die nach Verlagsansicht typischen männlichen Interessen abdeckt: Motor, Erotik, Technik, Style, Sport und Wissen. Anfangs erscheint das Magazin zweimonatlich, ab September 2004 wird auf eine monatliche Ausgabe umgestellt. Im August 2006 erschien die Jubiläumsausgabe mit den "schönsten Frauen aus 25 Ausgaben Matador". Seit 2007 erscheint viermal jährlich eine zusätzliche Modebeilage mit aktuellen Männerkollektionen

Zielgruppe sind gutverdienende Männer zwischen 20 und 44 Jahren, die Auflage bewegt sich zwischen 150.000 und 200.000 Stück und steht damit nach dem Playboy und Men's Health an dritter Stelle der Verkaufszahlen in diesem Bereich. Der Preis für eine Ausgabe liegt momentan bei 4,60 Euro (Stand: Juli 2007)

In einer Presseerklärung vom 27. März 2008 teilte der Verlag mit: „Das Männer-Lifestyle Magazin 'Matador' (...) wird mit Heftfolge Nr. 6 eingestellt. In einem außerordentlich schwierigen Marktumfeld konnten die wirtschaftlichen Ziele nicht erreicht werden.“ Laut Verlag erreichte das Magazin zuletzt eine Auflage von 163.041 Exemplaren (IVW 4/2007). Von der Einstellung, so hieß es weiter, seien 16 Mitarbeiter in der Redaktion betroffen.
