Natalie Jane Imbruglia (* 4. Februar 1975 in Sydney, New South Wales) ist eine australische Sängerin, Schauspielerin, Songwriterin und Model.

International bekannt wurde Natalie Imbruglia 1997 mit Torn (1996 geschrieben für Trine Rein) und dem Album Left Of The Middle. Natalie Imbruglia ist die ältere Schwester der Sängerin Laura Imbruglia.

Leben

Imbruglia wuchs in der kleinen, nah an der Küste gelegenen Stadt Berkleyvale (nördlich von Sydney) im australischen Bundesstaat New South Wales auf. Ihr Vater Elliot Imbruglia ist ein italienischer Emigrant von der Insel Lipari, ihre Mutter Maxene Anderson ist gebürtige Australierin. Natalie ist die zweitälteste von insgesamt vier Schwestern: Michelle, Carla und Laura.

Imbruglia ist seit 2003 mit Daniel Johns, Leadsänger der Bands Silverchair und The Dissociatives, verheiratet.

Leistung

Ebenso wie zuvor Jason Donovan und Kylie Minogue spielte sie zunächst ab 1991 eine Rolle in der australischen Seifenoper Nachbarn (Neighbours).

Beflügelt durch ihren Erfolg in der Serie startete Imbruglia 1997 eine Karriere als Sängerin. Ihre erste Single Torn, im Original von Trine Rein 1996 gesungen, erreichte im November 1997 Platz 2 der britischen Singlecharts. Ihr Debütalbum Left of the Middle verkaufte sich allein in Großbritannien über eine Million mal und enthielt mit Big Mistake und Smoke (beide 1998) zwei weitere Top-Ten-Hits.

2001 erschien das Nachfolgealbum White Lilies Island, das trotz radiofreundlicher Singleauskopplungen wie That Day (2001), Wrong Impression (2002) und Beauty On The Fire (2002) hinter den Verkaufszahlen des erfolgreichen Debüts zurückfiel.

Imbruglia setzte 2002 ihre Schauspielkarriere fort und spielte neben Rowan Atkinson in der britischen Spionage-Persiflage Johnny English. Zudem war sie in den letzten Jahren als Model für den französischen Kosmetikhersteller L’Oréal tätig.

Im März 2005 erschien die Single Shiver – ein weiterer Top-Ten-Erfolg in der britischen Charts für sie. Ihr daraufhin im April veröffentlichtes, drittes Album Counting Down The Days schaffte den Sprung auf Platz 1 der britischen Album-Charts.

Für September 2007 ist ein Greatest Hits-Album mit dem Titel Glorious: The Singles 1997-2007 angekündigt welches 5 neue Songs enthalten wird. Die erste Singleauskopplung daraus wird der neu eingespielte Song "Glorious" sein.
