Ennio Morricone
 

Ennio Morricone (* 10. November 1928 in Rom; † 6. Juli 2020 ebenda) war ein italienischer Komponist, Dirigent und Oscarpreisträger. Er arbeitete auch unter den Pseudonymen Dan Savio und Leo Nichols und komponierte die Musik für mehr als 500 Filme. Weil er die Filmmusik für zahlreiche Italowestern schrieb, wird sein Name vornehmlich mit diesem Filmgenre in Verbindung gebracht. Er komponierte jedoch auch Musik für andere Genres.

Besondere Bekanntheit erlangten seine Filmmusiken zum Italowestern-Klassiker Zwei glorreiche Halunken (Original: Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo), zum Western-Epos Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod, zu Roland Joffés Drama Mission und zu Giuseppe Tornatores Film Cinema Paradiso. Morricone erhielt 2007 den Oscar für sein Lebenswerk sowie 2016 einen weiteren für die Musik zum Film The Hateful Eight.
