Karen Newman is a professional singer based in Detroit, Michigan. Newman was raised in the Michigan towns of Rochester Hills and Grand Blanc, and studied music at Oakland University. She is best known for being "the voice" of the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings, regularly performing "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the team's home games at Joe Louis Arena. She has toured with Bob Seger and Kid Rock.[citation needed]

. The single "Christmas Eve on Woodward Avenue" has become a traditional favorite for many Detroit radio stations, and has been included for many years as part of the Detroit Thanksgiving Parade.[citation needed]
Prior to her association with the Red Wings, Newman had occasional work as an actress, including bit parts in the film Born on the Fourth of July and on episodes of television's What's Happening Now!! and Red Shoe Diaries.
