Vanessa Mai (* 2. Mai 1992 in Aspach als Vanessa Marija Else Mandeki?, bürgerlich Vanessa Marija Else Ferber) ist eine deutsche Sängerin und Schauspielerin. Sie wurde als Mitglied der Schlager*band Wolkenfrei bekannt und arbeitet seit deren Auflösung als Solosängerin.
Leben
Mai begleitete gelegentlich ihren Vater, einen gebürtigen Kroaten und Musiker,mit dem Tamburin. Mit ihm stand sie bereits im Alter von sieben Jahren auf der Bühne. Mit zehn Jahren hatte sie erste Gesangsauftritte mit den Titeln Er gehört zu mir und Schuld war nur der Bossa Novasowie im Schulmusical Der Zauberer von Oz. 2008 nahm sie im Alter von 15 Jahren bei der Hip-Hop-WM in Las Vegas als Teil der Tanz-Formation Getting Craz’d teil. Diese trat als deutscher Meister an und belegte den letzten Platz.
Mai machte auf einer Hauptschule den Werkrealschulabschluss. Nach ihrer Schulausbildung machte sie eine Berufsausbildung als Mediengestalterin. Ihren Künstlernamen wählte sie nach ihrem Geburtsmonat.
Seit 2013 ist sie mit ihrem Manager Andreas Ferber liiert. Sie lernte den Stiefsohn von Andrea Berg 2012 in einem Club in Stuttgart kennen. Nachdem sie sich Anfang 2016 verlobt hatten, heirateten sie im Juni 2017.
Musikalische Karriere
Anfänge mit Wolkenfrei (2012–2015)
Im Sommer 2012 verließ die damalige Wolkenfrei-Sängerin Heike Wanner aus gesundheitlichen Gründen die Band. Bei einem Konzertbesuch wurde Mai von Wolkenfrei-Mitglied Marc Fischer als Sängerin angeworben. Im Juli 2013 erschien die Debütsingle Jeans, T-Shirt und Freiheit. Das Debütalbum Endlos verliebt folgte im Februar 2014, mit dem sie in allen deutschsprachigen Staaten in die Albumcharts gelangten. Im April 2015 gaben Marc Fischer und Stefan Kinski ihren Ausstieg aus der Band bekannt. Seitdem wurde das Projekt nur noch durch Mai verkörpert (meist unter dem Zusatz „Wolkenfrei-Star Vanessa Mai“).
