Julia Ormond

Julia Karin Ormond (* 4. Januar 1965 in Epsom, Surrey) ist eine britische Schauspielerin. Nach der Schule versuchte sie in die Fußstapfen ihrer Großeltern, die beide Künstler waren, zu treten und besuchte ein Kunstcollege. Sie beendete dieses College jedoch nicht und wechselte 1988 an eine Schauspielschule. Dies war der Start für eine vielversprechende Theaterkarriere, die ihr bereits früh Preise einbrachte.

Ihre Filmkarriere begann mit Traffik, von dem Steven Soderbergh später mit dem Kinofilm Traffic - Macht des Kartells ein Remake drehte. In Die junge Katharina stellte Ormond die junge Katharina die Große dar. Ihre erste Kinorolle übernahm sie in dem umstrittenen Film Das Wunder von Macon Peter Greenaways. Den Durchbruch erzielte sie neben Brad Pitt in Legenden der Leidenschaft. Der 1. Ritter und Sabrina stellten weitere romantische Filme dar.

Ihre dramatischen Fähigkeiten zeigte sie in der Hauptrolle als Smilla Jaspersen in Fräulein Smillas Gespür für Schnee, der Verfilmung des Bestsellers von Peter Høeg. Weiterhin dreht sie mit bedeutenden Regisseuren: Der Barbier von Sibirien war ein russisches Epos von Nikita Michalkow, Inland Empire drehte David Lynch. Guerrilla soll der lang angekündigte Hollywood- Film über das Leben Che Guevaras sein, für das Soderbergh verantwortlich zeichnet.

Der Fernsehfilm Iron jawed Angels wiederum stellte das vielfach gelobte Amerika- Debüt von Katja von Garnier dar.

Neben den Filmen liegt Ormonds Konzentration auf der Theaterarbeit. Sie ist in zweiter Ehe seit 1999 verheiratet und Mutter eines Kindes.
