Claudia Black

Claudia Lee Black (* 11. Oktober 1972 in Sydney) ist eine australische Schauspielerin.

In Australien und Neuseeland erlangte Claudia Black einen hohen Bekanntheitsgrad durch verschiedene Rollen im Fernsehen. 1993 trat sie in der australischen Fernsehserie „A Country Practice“ (1981–1993) auf, in der neuseeländischen Serie „City Life“, die zwischen 1996 und 1998 ausgestrahlt wurde, spielte sie eine talentierte griechische Anwältin namens Angela Kostapas.

Weiterhin hatte Black Gastauftritte in den Serien „G. P.“ (1988 ), „Police Rescue“ (Folge: 3.12 „Double Illusion/Drogenmord“ als Julia, 1993), „Seven Deadly Sins“ (Miniserie, 1993), „Good Guys Bad Guys“ (Folge: 2.5 "Naughty Bits" als Jill Mayhew, 1997), „Water Rats“ (Folge: 2.47 „All At Sea" als Beth Williams“, 1997) und „Beastmaster – Herr der Wildnis“ (Folge: 2.13 „Wild Child“ als Huna, 2000). In „Hercules“ (Folgen: 3.22 „Atlantis/ Der Untergang von Atlantis“, 1997 und 4.10 „Hercules On Trial/Helden haben's schwer“, 1998 ) sowie in „Xena“ (Folge: 5.16 „Lifeblood/Amazonenblut“, 2000) trat Claudia Black als Amazonenkriegerin Cassandra auf. Geplant war aus den Serien einen Spin-Off über die Amazonen in Serie zu bringen, bei dem Claudia Black eine der Amazonen weiterhin gespielt hätte. Der Pilotfilm namens „Amazon High“ wurde abgedreht, aber nie gesendet, weil die Serie nicht realisiert wurde. Ausschnitte des Filmmaterials sind in der Xena-Folge verwendet worden.

Der entscheidende Durchbruch gelang Black mit der Science-Fiction-Serie „Farscape“ (1999) aus der Jim-Henson-Produktion. Darin spielte sie Aeryn Sun, eine von ihrer Einheit und ihrem Volk ausgestoßene Militärpilotin, die auf einem lebenden Ex-Gefangenentransporter aufgenommen wird und mit dessen Crew durch unerforschte Territorien flieht. Diese Rolle brachte ihr eine Nominierung für den Saturn Award als „Beste Schauspielerin“ und die Auszeichnung als „Beste Schauspielerin“ des Jahres 2000 von scifi ign und vom TV-Zone-Magazine ein.

1994 wirkte Black in dem nie gesendeten Comedy-Thriller Goodfruit mit. Einen kurzen Part übernahm Black in dem düsteren Science-Fiction-Thriller Pitch Black – Planet der Finsternis (2000) als Sharon „Shazza“ Montgomery, die auf einem fremdartigen Planeten strandet. In dem Sequel zu Interview mit einem Vampir, Königin der Verdammten, belegte Black die Rolle der Pandora.

Black wirkte auch in der Science-Fiction-Serie „Stargate SG-1“ mit. Ihr Charakter, Vala Mal Doran, wurde in der achten Staffel eingeführt, in der neunten Staffel übernahm sie eine wiederkehrende Nebenrolle, in der zehnten und letzten Staffel gehörte sie schließlich zur Stammbesetzung. Hier arbeitete Black erneut mit ihrem „Farscape“-Kollegen Ben Browder zusammen, der seit der neunten Staffel eine Hauptrolle spielt.
