Life and career
19 year old Sophie Lowe was born in Sheffield, England and moved to Australia with her family in 2000. In her early teens she was modelling (she was signed to Chadwick Models), which she soon quit in favor to dancing. Because of her dancing she got into McDonald College of Performing arts in Sydney, where she discovered acting. She did a few short films and television ads before she graduated college in 2008.
Sophies life changed after her mother saw an ad looking after a beautiful, innocent looking and tomboy type girl to star in “Beautiful Kate”. Sophie auditioned and got the part as the title role Kate after a somewhat weird audition. Rachel Ward, the director of the film, was looking at her weirdly and almost followed her out of the room. Fortunately it was a good thing. Filming of the film started in June 2008, when Sophie was still attending college.
Previously, Sophie has acted in a number of short films and television commercials.
Sophie has also been cast in the Australian film “Blessed” directed by Anna Kokkinos and featuring a stellar cast including Miranda Otto, Deborah Lee Furness and Frances O’Connor. She plays teenage rebel Katrina which start filming in November 2008.
2009 was a big year for Sophie. She was cast in four more films and guest starred in “All Saints”. She has also completed filming on “The Clinic” directed by James Rabbitts, “Blame” and “Road Train”, due for release in 2010. In June, Sophie’s feature film debut Beautiful Kate premiered at the Sydney International Film Festival in and has received critical acclaim both locally and internationally, resulting in an AFI nomination for Sophie. In September 2009, Sophie was at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada to promote her films “Beautiful Kate” and “Blessed”. It was a big success for Sophie since she got signed by an LA based agent.
