Rachel McAdams (* 7. Oktober 1976 in London, Ontario) ist eine kanadische Schauspielerin.

McAdams wurde als Tochter eines Lastwagenfahrers und einer Krankenschwester geboren und wuchs in der Kleinstadt St. Thomas auf. Im Alter von 13 Jahren begann sie mit der Schauspielerei und nach dem Besuch des Central Elgin Collegiate Institute in St. Thomas studierte sie Schauspielkunst an der York University in Toronto.

Ihre ersten Rollen hatte sie in Fernsehfilmen und -serien wie Shotgun Love Dolls und Mission Erde: Sie sind unter uns. Im Jahr 2002 hatte sie in der italienisch-kanadischen Koproduktion My Name Is Tanino ihr Debüt auf der Kinoleinwand. Für ihre nächste Rolle im Kleinstadtdrama Perfect Pie wurde sie für einen Genie Award als beste Newcomerin nominiert und machte so Hollywood auf sich aufmerksam.

Ihre nächsten Filme, die Komödien Hot Chick – Verrückte Hühner (2002) und Girls Club (2004), steigerten ihre Bekanntheit weiter. Während sie in diesen Filmen den typischen High School-Teenager spielte, wendete sie sich 2004 mit dem Drama Wie ein einziger Tag ernsthafteren – und erwachsenen – Rollen zu.

Das Jahr 2004 brachte auch eine Rekordnominierung bei den MTV Movie Awards für McAdams mit sich, als sie in gleich fünf Kategorien nominiert wurde, unter anderem für die beste Schauspielerin und die beste Newcomerin.

Bei den Dreharbeiten zu Wie ein einziger Tag traf sie auch ihren Landsmann Ryan Gosling, mit dem sie sich verlobte.

2005 war sie gleich in zwei erfolgreichen Filmen zu sehen, so wurde sie von Regisseur Wes Craven in der Hauptrolle seines Thrillers Red Eye an der Seite von Cillian Murphy besetzt und in der Komödie Die Hochzeits-Crasher spielte sie die Tochter eines Senators, der von Christopher Walken verkörpert wurde.

Ende 2005 landete sie bei einer Umfrage des Männermagazins FHM auf Platz 101 der Sexiest Women in the World. Sie lebt mit ihrer Familie in Toronto.

Im November 2007 gaben Gosling und McAdams ihre Trennung bekannt.
