Lucie Šafářová (* 4. Februar 1987 in Brünn) ist eine tschechische Tennisspielerin.

Karriere

Lucie Šafářová ist eine von wenigen Linkshänderinnen auf der WTA-Tour. Insgesamt hat sie in ihrer Karriere vier Einzeltitel gewonnen. 2005 schlug sie im Finale von Estoril die Chinesin Na Li mit 6:7, 6:4 und 6:3. Im selben Jahr bezwang sie im Finale von Forest Hills die Inderin Sania Mirza mit 3:6, 7:5 und 6:4. 2006 gewann sie das Gold-Coast-Turnier mit einem Finalsieg gegen Flavia Pennetta (6:3 und 6:4).

Zu Beginn des Jahres 2007 unterlag Šafářová in der zweiten Runde von Hobart der späteren Australian-Open-Siegerin Serena Williams mit 3:6, 6:3 und 6:7. Bei den Australian Open erreichte sie dann zum ersten Mal in ihrer Karriere das Achtelfinale eines Grand-Slam-Turniers. Dort bezwang sie die Nummer zwei der Welt und Titelverteidigerin, Amélie Mauresmo, mit 6:4 und 6:3. Im Viertelfinale unterlag Šafářová dann ihrer Landsfrau Nicole Vaidišová mit 1:6 und 4:6.

Bei den Open Gaz in Paris erreichte Šafářová nach Siegen über Nicole Vaidišová, Swetlana Kusnezowa sowie die Nr. 1 der Setzliste, Justine Henin, das Finale. Dort musste sie sich Nadia Petrowa mit 6:4, 1:6 und 4:6 geschlagen geben.

Bei den French Open 2007 gelang es Šafářová in der dritten Runde erneut, Amélie Mauresmo zu besiegen, diesmal mit 6:3 und 7:6. Im Achtelfinale scheiterte die Tschechin aber an der Russin Anna Tschakwetadse. In Wimbledon scheiterte Šafářová in der dritten Runde an Jelena Janković.

2008 nahm sie an den Olympischen Sommerspielen in Peking teil. Sie erreichte dabei das Achtelfinale, das sie gegen Sybille Bammer mit 5:7 und 4:6 verlor. Ihren vierten WTA-Einzeltitel holte die Tschechin beim Vorbereitungsturnier für die US Open 2008, in Forest Hills.

Šafářová ist die Freundin des tschechischen Tennisspielers Tomáš Berdych.
