Backhaus studierte Politikwissenschaft in Köln. Sie moderierte bei 1 Live, WDR 2 und im Hessischen Rundfunk. In der ARD präsentierte sie das Magazin Tier Hoch Vier. Derzeit ist sie bei VOX gemeinsam mit Bauleiter Sascha Slechta als Moderatorin der Handwerker-Sendung Wohnen nach Wunsch - Das Haus zu sehen.
