Die am 11. Februar 1990 im badischen Schweigmait geborene Schauspielerin und Sängerin Q’orianka (was von Quechua ins Deutsche übersetzt „Goldener Adler“ bedeutet) ist peruanisch-schweizerische-alaskische Abstammung.
Ihre Urgroßeltern mütterlicherseits wanderten zu Beginn des Zweiten Weltkrieges aus Nunningen im Schweizer Kanton Solothurn nach Alaska aus, wo Q’Oriankas Großmutter, die sich später in Deutschland niederließ, und ihre Mutter geboren wurden. Diese bereiste die Welt und lernte in Peru den zum Volk der Quechua gehörenden Vater Q’Oriankas kennen. In der Sprache ihres Vaters bedeutet der Vorname „Goldener Adler“.

Q’Orianka Kilcher verbrachte ihre Kindheit auf Hawaii und lebt heute mit Mutter und Bruder in Los Angeles. Sie besitzt zusätzlich zur US-amerikanischen auch die Schweizer Staatsbürgerschaft. Ihr Vater kommt alle vier bis fünf Jahre zu Besuch aus Peru. Sie ist eine Cousine zweiten Grades der Sängerin Jewel Kilcher.

Q’Orianka selbst trat seit ihrem sechsten Lebensjahr als Straßensängerin auf, womit sie bis zu 2000 US-Dollar pro Tag verdiente. 2000 wurde ihr in Santa Monica die Tonausrüstung gestohlen. Das Missgeschick landete auf der Titelseite der Los Angeles Times, was Q'Orianka eine neue Ausrüstung sowie ein Engagement als Chorsängerin in der Bühnenshow „How the Grinch Stole Christmas“ und in der Verfilmung „Der Grinch“ (2000, mit Jim Carrey) einbrachte.

2002 trat sie bei der Castingshow Star Search an, schied jedoch früh aus. Im gleichen Jahr hatte sie eine kleine Rolle in einer Episode der Fernsehserie „Madison Heights“.

International bekannt wurde Q’Orianka Kilcher, als sie der Filmregisseur Terrence Malick neben Colin Farrell für die weibliche Hauptrolle der Pocahontas in seinem Historienfilm „The New World“ (2005) auswählte. Der Film war finanziell in den USA ein mäßiger Erfolg, erntete aber eine Oscar-Nominierung für die beste Kamera. Q’Orianka Kilcher erhielt sehr gute Kritiken und die Auszeichnung des National Board of Review als beste Nachwuchsschauspielerin.
