Silvana Koch-Mehrin (* 17. November 1970 in Wuppertal) ist eine deutsche FDP-Politikerin.


Leben

Koch-Mehrin wuchs zunächst in Marokko und dem Sudan auf[1] und verbrachte ihre Schulzeit dann in Köln. 1990 machte sie dort ihr Abitur am Rodenkirchener Gymnasium. Sie studierte Volkswirtschaftslehre und Geschichte in Hamburg, Straßburg und Heidelberg. Sie promovierte über die lateinische Münzunion.

Seit 1997 in Brüssel wohnhaft, lebt Koch-Mehrin dort mit dem irischen Rechtsanwalt James Candon zusammen und hat drei Töchter. Sie unterhält ein Abgeordnetenbüro in Karlsruhe, in dessen FDP-Kreisverband sie auch Mitglied ist.

Politik

Koch-Mehrin war stellvertretende Vorsitzende der Jungen Liberalen.

Seit 1999 gehört sie dem Bundesvorstand der FDP an. Die Zeitschrift Freundin wählte sie zur „Frau des Jahres“ 2000. Als Spitzenkandidatin der FDP bei der Europawahl 2004 führte Koch-Mehrin ihre Partei nach zehnjähriger Abstinenz in das Straßburger Parlament zurück.

Sie setzte sich im Wahlkampf für einen Volksentscheid über die EU-Verfassung, die Einhaltung des Euro-Stabilitätspaktes und den Abbau von Bürokratie ein.

Nach dem Einzug in das Europaparlament wurde Koch-Mehrin zur Vorsitzenden der FDP-Gruppe innerhalb der ALDE-Fraktion und zur ersten stellvertretenden Fraktionsvorsitzenden gewählt.

Silvana Koch-Mehrin ist in folgenden Ausschüssen und Delegationen offizielles Mitglied:

* Stellv. Mitglied im Haushaltskontrollausschuss
* Stellv. Mitglied im Nichtständigen Ausschuss zu den politischen Herausforderungen und Haushaltsmitteln der erweiterten Union 2007–2013
* Mitglied der Delegation für die Beziehungen zu den Maghreb-Ländern und der Union des Arabischen Maghreb (einschließlich Libyen)
* Stellv. Mitglied der Delegation für die Beziehungen zu den Maschrik-Ländern
