Barbara Valentin

[Kuno Parschunke]

Barbara Valentin (* 15. Dezember 1940 in Wien; † 22. Februar 2002 in München; eigentlich Ursula "Uschi" Ledersteger) war eine österreichische Schauspielerin.

Valentin wurde als Tochter des Filmarchitekten Hans Ledersteger und der Schauspielerin Irmgard Alberti geboren. Nach der Schauspielschule bekam die gelernte Kosmetikerin die ersten Jahre nur kleine Nebenrollen, hauptsächlich als üppige Blondine und als Sex-Symbol.

In der Zusammenarbeit mit dem Regisseur Rainer Werner Fassbinder wurde Valentin schließlich zur Charakterdarstellerin. Sie spielte unter anderem in der Literatur-Adaption von Fontanes Fontane Effi Briest, dem Beziehungsdrama Martha und in Lili Marleen sowie in der preisgekrönten Zukunftsvision Welt am Draht. 1995 verließ sie die Dreharbeiten zu United Trash von Christoph Schlingensief und stand erst 2001 ein letztes Mal wieder vor der Kamera.

Im Privatleben machte Valentin zahlreiche Krisen durch. Drei Ehen scheiterten, darunter mit dem Filmregisseur Helmut Dietl. Zudem wurden in der Presse immer wieder Drogenprobleme kolportiert. Sie war Mutter zweier Kinder. In den achtziger Jahren lebte sie mit Freddie Mercury, Sänger der Gruppe Queen zusammen. Nach seinem Tod 1991 engagierte sie sich vermehrt in der AIDS-Hilfe.

Barbara Valentin verstarb nach einer Gehirnblutung am 22. Februar 2002 im Alter von 61 Jahren. Sie wurde auf dem Münchener Ostfriedhof beigesetzt (Grab Mauer links Nr. 183).
