Gates McFadden

Cheryl Gates McFadden (* 2. März 1949 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) ist eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin. Sie hat einen Abschluss in Theaterwissenschaft der Brandeis University.

Berühmt wurde McFadden durch ihre Rolle als Ärztin Dr. Beverly Crusher in der Serie Raumschiff Enterprise: Das nächste Jahrhundert. Aufgrund von Meinungsverschiedenheiten mit einigen Produzenten schied McFadden für die Dauer der 2. Staffel aus der Serie aus und wurde durch die Figur der Schiffsärztin Dr. Katherine Pulaski ersetzt (verkörpert durch Diana Muldaur). Nachdem dieser Charakter beim Fernsehpublikum einen unpopulären Status erlangte, kehrte McFadden nach persönlicher Bitte mit der 3. Staffel zur Serie zurück. Auf der FedCon 2006 sagte sie über ihre Rolle als Beverly Crusher, dass sie sich die etwas humorvoller gewünscht hätte.

Neben ihrer Star-Trek-Rolle spielte sie auch eine Nebenrolle als Caroline Ryan im Film Jagd auf Roter Oktober und war unter anderem in der Serie Marker – Heißes Pflaster Hawaii zu sehen, wo sie die Stiefmutter der Hauptperson spielt.

Für den Fantasy-Film Die Reise ins Labyrinth war sie als Choreographin tätig, für welchen sie zum Beispiel die Ballsequenz und die Schlacht in der Koboldstadt erarbeitete. Als erste Hauptdarstellerin einer Star-Trek-Folge führte sie auch Regie (in der Episode Genesis).

Mit John C. Talbot hat sie einen Sohn namens James Cleveland McFadden-Talbot (* 10. Juni 1991).
